The Associated Press reported the passing of Bishop Solomon Burke on the morning of October 10th. Bishop Burke was traveling to Amsterdam from Los Angeles for a performance. He was 70. Bishop Burke served as pastor and spiritual leader of the House of God for All People and was active in the music industry for over 50 years. While he gained notoriety in R & B and was called “a great soul singer – possibly the greatest” by the late Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records, Burke recorded a number of gospel LPs on the Savoy record label between 1979- 1984. His last gospel project was Not By Water But Fire Next Time in 1999.
