Many of our readers have seen that the beloved duo Dawkins & Dawkins have released their highly anticipated project “From Now On“. they continue to receive rave reviews of this recording effort. The group is making strides on digital markets such as itunes and amazon.com, and have been featured on TBN’s 15th Street Live show. Their video “Get Down” has been added to BET and  Centric’s video roster. So keep your eyes  and ears open to see what’s next for Dawkins & Dawkins.

Almost 3 years later and William Mcdowell’s “As We Worship:Live” recording is still making an impact in the gospel music world! The undeniable anthem of selflessness, “I Give Myself Away”, is undoubtedly sung across the world by believers that at their core desire more of God. Congratulations to William McDowell and Light Records on the continued success. The Sounds of Blackness Signs with Malaco Records

They’ve given us classics such as “Optimistic”, “I’m Going All The Way”, and “Hold On Change Is Coming”, and now the group that revolutionized Christian, R&B, and Inspirational Music Returns! The Sounds of Blackness has recently signed with Malaco Records. Expect to hear a new single entitled, “Fly Again” on radio from the Grammy Award Winning Group starting in August.  The new album will be simply titled, “The Sounds of Blackness” and is right on the heels of the group’s 40 year anniversary and the 20th anniversary of their game changing album, “Optimistic’.  The new single will feature Jamecia Bennett on lead vocals. Jamecia is the daughter of former Sounds of Blackness Lead vocalist Ann Nesby , and mother to Season 5 American Idol Finalist Paris Bennett

Passing of Bishop F C Barnes

Gospel music lovers across the country were saddened with the passing of AIR Gospel/Malaco Recording Artist Bishop F C Barnes on July 11. Bishop Barnes was 82.

Bishop Barnes started singing with quartets at the age of 14.  He spent a number of years traveling the circuit before answering the call to ministry organizing the Red Budd Holy Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina where he would serve as pastor and chief musician.    He would later go on to pair up with Reverend Janice Brown.  The duo made eight albums, one of which yielded  the smash hit Rough Side of the Mountain in 1983. The album would sell over 500,000 units and ride the charts for over a a record 97 weeks.

Bishop Barnes recorded several albums with his son Luther and the Barnes Family, with his group called the Company (featuring his nieces Deborah Barnes, Wanda Barnes, and Lisa Barnes)  his Red Budd Gospel Choir as well as several recordings from the quartet he founded, the Sunset Jubilaires.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
