Lee Williams and The Williams Brothers Team Up For My Brothers Keeper 2

BK2Cover We are accustomed to keeping up with the Joneses (where is Stan Jones, by the way?), but today, our attention is solely focused on the Williams(es).  Lee Williams and the Spiritual QCs and The Williams Brothers team up for the second installment of My Brother’s Keeper hitting the streets on February 5th.  Lee Williams and The Williams Brothers represent two of the biggest names in the idiom of quartet music in the gospel genre.  Fresh from their 2012 Stellar Award for Quartet of the Year, Melvin, Doug and Henry continue the tradition of quartet gospel in grand fashion and Lee Williams, highly regarded as the “Cool Gent of Quartet” lays hold to all the power and the glory of singing the gospel.  Be sure to look for this CD in stores next week.

Better2013 is taking shape as the last day of January marks the release of great gospel music into the marketplace. After a few problems with iTunes yesterday, things finally got “Better” for Charles Butler, Jr and Trinity. Better is the first single from the DC based group on the EPM Music Group Label and the full project is slated for a February 26th release.  GOSPELflava caught up  with Pugh and Butler at this year’s Stellar Awards Weekend. Kandi Burruss New Single to Feature Pastor Marvin Sapp

Kandi Burrus from Bravo’s, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” has announced that she has a new single being released entitled, ” Stay Prayed Up”, which will feature the newly appointed “Male Vocalist Of the Year”, Pastor Marvin Sapp. Burruss confirmed the information in an interview to the Yolanda Adams Morning Show and on her Facebook page.  On next weeks episode of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” the viewers will see Kandi in the studio working on the new single. Kandi says, ” No matter who you are, what you do, you still need God and to be Prayed up!”.  The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8 pm on Bravo.

Songwriter Vernon Chappel Passes

ChappelGOSPELflava was made aware of the passing of gospel singer, songwriter and musician Elder Vernon Chappel on Sunday, January 27th.  Chappel’s composition, Praise Jehovah was a huge hit for Evangelist Beverly Crawford on her debut solo CD, Jesus Precious King. Other compositions were recorded by Joe Pace, Evangelist Dorothy Norwood and the Edwin Hawkins Music and Arts Seminar Mass Choir.  Chappel released a number of solo projects independently.

A resident of North Carolina, Chappell served for several years as Music Pastor for the River Church in Durham. Funeral services are pending.

Verity Records Has a New Name

RCA InspirationVerity Records recently announced they have a new name. Verity Gospel will now be known as “RCA Inspiration”. The label will be headed up by now general manager Geo Bivins., he will also retain his title as “SVP Of Urban Promotions”. Stanley Brown has been promoted to the head of A&R and Cheryl Mark has now been promoted to VP of Marketing.  Bivins, Brownand Mark will remain at the company’s headquarters in New York City.  New General Manger Geo states that he is “excited to be working with great Gospel artist and that RCA Inspiration will continue the tradition held by Verity Records”. RCA Inspiration is the label home to Gospel greats Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Byron Cage, Donald Lawrence and more. RCA Inspiration is set to release “Wow Gospel 2013”,  William Murphy’s new project, “God  Chaser”, and Fred Hammond’s new group “United Tenors”  with  tenors Dave Hollister, Brian Courtney Wilson and Eric Roberson
