While we expectantly await the July release of Graceland, Kierra Sheard shows the world that she is not alloting any time to watch the grass grow. She is all about the business of brand awareness and impact. This week, Sheard unveils a new hosiery line during a promotional stop in the Windy City. This is in addition to her hosting a radio show, authoring Sing Girl Sing, a children’s book and hosting her annual Bold Right Life conference in August.
The most performed Christian rock, contemporary Christian, inspirational, southern and urban Gospel songs on U.S. Christian radio were celebrated at the 2014 BMI Christian Awards on June 17th. Aaron Lindsey was honored as one of the six Christian songwriters of the year for Its Not Over (When God Is In It) for Israel Houghton and My Testimony for Marvin Sapp. Other award winning songs included Awesome (Charles Jenkins), Life and Favor (John P. Tim Bowman, Jr. never ceases to amaze. He introduced the saints to “sanctified scat” with his appearance on his aunt Vickie Winans’ smash hit, How I Got Over. That was followed by the release of his independent CD in 2010 featuring Beautiful, which made its way into the top ten. We now have confirmation that the music will keep going with the announcement of Bowman’s label deal with Rodney Jerkins as the first gospel artist signed to Jerkins’ new Evolve Music Group imprint.
The first radio single I’m Good, written by Jhonte Austin and produced by Jerkins shows a mature and modern sound for Bowman. The single has been serviced to radio and Bowman will make appearances across the country in support of its release.
In the late 90s, we were introduced to Otis Battles as the front man for the High Point Community Choir. The choir’s MCG Records debut was co-produced by Hezekiah Walker with music from Rodney Jerkins and a noteworthy vocal performance from Faith Evans (see review here). Battles and the choir received a warm reception and his gift made room for him affording ministry opportunities across the country as well as overseas. Otis Battles sings of hope and brighter days in I Believe, his new single written and produced by Travis Malloy, marking his triumphant return to the recording scene after a ten year hiatus.
Jason Shepherd has been on the watch list for a while now and with good reason. An up and coming producer, songwriter and contemporary Gospel artist, he has composed music for the likes of Shekinah Glory Ministry, Phil Tarver and the Edwin and Walter Hawkins Music and Arts Seminar Mass Choir. Jason’s music was prominently featured in the Coca Cola Pay It Forward Program in 2013. His latest contribution comes via the release of Haven’t Forgot, featuring Vernard Burton backed by Standard. The song serves as a constant reminder of God’s active presence in our lives. Haven’t Forgot was released in early June and is available at digital outlets everywhere.
