Grammy Award winning songwriter and producer Rodney Jerkins announced the formation of Lifestyle Music Group. The new label will have distribution through Motown Gospel/Capitol Christian and Demmette Guidry has been tapped to serve as General Manager. Capital Christian Music Group President Bill Hearn shared these sentiments, “Rodney Jerkins’ entrance into the Christian and gospel music genres is long overdue. His track record speaks for itself, and I have no doubt our industry will benefit greatly from the artists and music he develops. All of us at Capitol Christian Music Group are honored to work with Rodney and the Lifestyle team and will do everything possible to contribute to their success.”
Already slated are projects from Tim Bowman, Jr. and Joy Enriquez.
GOSPELflava joins others around the country in mourning the passing of Aldrea Lenox (pictured top left), wife of the late Pastor (and noted singer) James Lenox (God’s Been Good to Me aka I Won’t Complain) and mother of Annette Queenie Lenox and Pastor Lamont Lenox. A singer in her own right, Aldrea Lenox along with Ethel Holloway and Elsa Harris made up the Jessy Dixon Singers and traveled across the country and the world. The group so greatly impressed Paul Simon that he had them back him on his Saturday Night Live appearance and recorded two million selling albums with them. Funeral arrangements are pending.

After 34 uplifting seasons, BET announced the final season of Bobby Jones Gospel, the longest-continuously-running original cable TV show will tape this summer. Bobby Jones Gospel has brought great gospel singers and music into the homes of millions each week and a special season is planned as the gospel community comes to bid farewell.

The west coast based worship leader, psalmist, author and teacher’s debut CD Bishop Noel Jones Presents: Trent Von Lee I Am A Praiser was released on March 24th and was warmly received making its way into the top 10 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart.
Von Lee has been leading worship and ushering people into the presence of God for more than a decade serving under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Marichal Monts and the late Bishop Kenneth Moales before relocating to Los Angeles and joining the City of Refuge pastored by Bishop Noel Jones. After surviving a bout with prostate cancer and loss of a kidney, Trent stands on the promises of God to declare and sing the Lord’s praises to all who will hear and receive.
Pugh will start the day sharing music ministry at the Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington where he served as part of the music team during his stay in the DMV followed by the awards banquet and a concert at Howard University’s Blackburn Center. Pugh will also celebrate the 30th Pastoral anniversary of Pastor Robert G Childs, Howard University School of Divinity Professor at the Berean Baptist Church.
Stellar Award Winner Tiffany Joy McGhee (TiffJoy) becomes the first artist under VaShawn Mitchell’s Walkway Music Group banner in partnership with Tyscot Records. TiffJoy’s Amazing recorded by Ricky Dillard and New G took home the Stellar for song of the year and remained on the Billboard charts for 30 consecutive weeks.

Held in the East Wing of the White House, which was converted into a concert venue, President Barack, First Lady Michelle Obama, and invited guests were entertained by some of the nation’s premiere Christian and Gospel artists. Among the list of performers included: Pastor Shirley Caesar, Rance Allen, tamela Mann, Rodney Crowell, Darlene Love, the Morgan State University Choir, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett and Aretha Franklin. ABC’s Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts served as Mistress of Ceremonies. The show is scheduled to air on PBS and TV One on June 26th.
