GOSPELflava joins others around the world remembering the life of Christian music legend Billy Ray Hearne who passed away on Wednesday, April 15th. Hearne, a graduate of Baylor University began his career at Word Records, launching the Myrrh label and introducing the world to Amy Grant. In 1976, he founded Sparrow Records, which would include a number of top Gospel artists including Bebe and CeCe Winans, Tramaine Hawkins, The Clark Sisters, Daryl Coley, and the West Angeles COGIC Saints In Praise series.
In 1992, Sparrow was sold to EMI Music, making way for the creation of Capitol Christian Music, the world’s largest Christian music group and home to Motown Gospel.

Ted Winn delivered the goods with the release of Balance, his solo project in 2010 featuring The Lifter and God Believes In You. He now engages audiences with a new single, More and gives reason to hope that Perspective, his sophomore CD is imminent. More is gaining traction on the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart and makes it debut on digital platforms on Tuesday, April 21st.

Geoffery Golden, the BET Sunday Best Season 7 Winner will record live on Friday April 17th at the Irving Bible Church. The Cleveland native spent his formative years around the church and developed a love for music under the keen eye and supervision of his father, the pastor of their local church and mother who serves as the church music director. Golden joins Kirk Franklin’s Fo Yo Soul label alongside label mates and recent Stellar Awards Winners Tasha Page Lockhart and the Walls Group.

The city of Indianapolis will never be the same after The Williams Singers Live CD/DVD recording, taking place on September 11th at the Caring Place. Second
generation quartetsmen Darnell, Dezmien, and Dezrale Williams known for their hit single Been Good have been leaving audiences “slain”with their electrifying performances merging the fire and intensity of quartet with contemporary music and intricate harmonies. The CD/DVD recording will also feature performances from Zacardi Cortez, Lisa Knowles, Alexis Spight and Bishop Neal Roberson.

Fresh from her White House performance for the President and First Lady, Tamela Mann talks life,
love and happiness with her husband David Mann when they visit The Real on April 16th. David and Tamela are also enjoying the success of the debut of their new sitcom Mann and Wife on Bounce TV. The April 7th debut debut of MANN & WIFE became the network’s most-watched original to date, reaching nearly 800,000 viewers.

Bishop Rance Allen, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Tamela Mann and others join Aretha Franklin and the Morgan State University Choir for “The Gospel Tradition: In Performance at the White House”. The hour long program celebrates the rich history of Gospel music and its impact on other music genres and will air on PBS and TV One on June 26th.
“The gospel tradition, which has its roots in the African-American community, has lifted up so many, promising hope whether through the everyday travails of life or some of our nation’s most turbulent times,” noted Brad Siegel, president of TV One. “We’re proud to be partners with WETA and public broadcasting in celebrating this uniquely American institution at the White House and with the American public.”

New York based urban inspirational group LIVRE caught the attention of Gospel music fans with the release of their singles “I Will Be Alright” and “Amazing”. Their power charged performances helped to send both songs to the Top 20 on Billboard Gospel radio charts. The group is now ready for the July release of their CD, JERICHO: TRIBE OF JOSHUA. The debut disc will feature guest appearances from Mali Music, Jason Nelson, rapper FERG and others.

After a power packed CD release concert hosted at New Orleans’ Greater St Stephens Full Gospel Baptist Church coupled with appearances from Lowell Pye and Canton Jones, the Showers are poised to make an indent in Gospel with the imminent release of their self titled album on Habakkuk Music.
April Chandler, president of Habakkuk Music, said “the album is very diverse and there’s something on it for everyone… production was executed excellently.”With production assistance from Grammy and Stellar award winners Deon Kipping, Myron Butler, Bruce Robinson, Jr. and others, this new disc is sure to be a favorite among Gospel music lovers.

Creative Classic Agency’s event series StrikeSplitMix produced a special ‘Vegas Charity Bowl’ edition during this years Stellar Awards weekend where eight charities, represented by eight different teams, competed for the title of winner. Newly formed charity Gospel Gives earned the championship slot.
