Roy Cotton II Accepts Challenge To Bring Back The Hymns

Written by: Gregory Gay

August 18th, 2016

Roy cottonRoy Cotton II remembers church the way it used to be.  Every Sunday, he looked forward to the beginning of service as he knew to expect the choir to do an anthem and a hymn in its selection of music before they launched into the standard Gospel music medley.  This rich tradition was one he carried with him as he grew in skill and (musical) stature, matriculating through the prestigious Hampton University and serving as minister of music at churches across the country.hymnscd

Cotton brings the lighter fluid to kindle the flame that heightens our awareness and appreciation of hymns in the worship experience.  Bring Back the Hymns gathers Gospel music’s finest including Kathy Taylor, Chrystal Rucker, Bishop Paul S. Morton, Chester D.T. Baldwin, Dr. Judith Christie-McAllister, Oscar Williams and Candy West to celebrate the songs that serve as the foundation of the Church.  Cotton’s SoundShed worship technology company leads the way in providing STEMS (separated tracks enhancing musicians and singers) for Hymns to be used in churches nationwide. In proof and validation of his full investment in the Hymns movement, his 4 year old goes around the house impressing family and friends with his knowledge of the first and fourth verses of Revive Us Again.

Bring Back the Hymns makes its official debut August 30th.

Damen Heyward Makes Gospel Debut With Music Video

Written by: Gregory Gay

August 15th, 2016

As a teeDamen Heyward 2n, Damen Heyward attracted success and fame as one part of the Capitol Records act 4 By Four.  The group topped Billboard with two singles at their height and Damen would go on to later join the Force MDs.  The singer/songwriter/producer and vocal coach today makes a declaration of the greatness of God with the release of a new music video, My God is the Greatest.

For Heyward, it was a return to his roots.  Growing up in and around the church, Heyward was exposed to the music of the church. “I grew up in the church”, says Heyward. “I received the Lord at a very young age but like a lot of folks I lived in sin.  God got a hold of me and in 1997, I rededicated my life to Christ. The Lord was preparing me for a greater work so after years of sitting in the pews of Love Gospel Assembly in the Bronx NY, the Lord began to deal with me about a call to the ministry.   I accepted and attended the Voice of Freedom School of Ministry , first being licensed as an Evangelist in 2011 and then the Pastoral office in 2013. Little did I know that God would once again use my music as a tool to evangelize and reach the masses with the Gospel.
