Ten-Time GRAMMY Award Winning Producer Kevin Bond is set to release a tribute single to the late great Nelson Mandela. The Former President of South Africa passed away on Friday December 5th after a long battle with a lung infection. Compelled by the life of this great man, Kevin Bond has composed a personal musical tribute that will be included in the SABC’s home going festivities for the great leader. The single will be played on South African TV and radio stations and is a a rousing uptempo presentation featuring original music by Bond, speech clips by Mandela, and to engage the youth, Kevin’s 16 year old son Alex Bond III is rapping on the single.

GOSPELflava joins others across the globe mourning the passing of Mother Geneva Gentry at the age of 101. Mother Gentry along with her late husband Joshua were instrumental in the promulgation of Gospel music through their affiliation with Professor Thomas A. Dorsey and the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses. In the early 40s, the Gentrys organized When Singers Meet, a yearly music festival (still in existence) in St. Louis, Missouri introducing various up and coming gospel singers and musicians. Joshua Gentry succeeded Professor Dorsey as President of NCGCC and served until his passing in 1990. Mother Gentry served as the coordinator for the consecration service for many years and was featured in the acclaimed documentary, Say Amen Somebody. Their daughter, Marabeth Gentry now serves as the first woman president of the 80 year old organization.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 19th at the Christ Southern Mission Baptist Church in St. Louis.

Fans were given an inside look into the Campbell-Atkins family during the last two seasons of their weTV reality show, “Mary Mary”. Mr. Atkins was battling cancer at the time of his death.

GOSPELflava joins others across the country mourning the passing of Gospel’s very own Donna Grady Creer. Creer and her husband Donald died as a result of a fire in their home in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Creer was known to many through her work as an educator, radio announcer, event planner/coordinator, consultant and writer. She served for a number of years in the Gospel Announcers Guild of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and was a friend to everyone she came in contact with.
GOSPELflava has been notified of the passing of Reverend Gerald Thompson, noted preacher, pastor, singer, songwriter and producer. Amongst Reverend Thompson’s production credits are co producer of On Time God and Live at Salem for the songbird of the south, Dottie Peoples. Thompson recorded several albums for the AIR Gospel label producing such hits as Hallelujah, I Found Him and Jesus Is My Rock.

Funeral arrangements were announced for Meek Records recording artist Bishop Keith C Smith, who passed away on May 1st. Smith was a noted gospel preacher and founded the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Bible Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina where he served as Senior Pastor. Bishop Smith recorded 2 CDs for the Meek label; his CD debut, Old Time Churchin’ peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart in 2002 and was followed up by the release of Going to Church in 2005.
There will be a visitation period on Friday, May 10th from noon until 4pm at the Cathedral of Faith Bible Church followed by a services at the Cornerstone Baptist Church that evening. On Saturday, May 11th, the service of Victory and Triumph will take place at noon.
GOSPELflava joins others across the Gospel Music Community in mourning the loss of Reverend Arthur T. Jones, Senior Pastor of Bible Based Fellowship Church and Executive Director and Co-founder of the Florida Mass Choir.
It was a friendship between Jones and Reverend Milton Biggham that led to the organization of the Florida Mass Choir in 1974. Under the leadership of Reverend Jones, Florida Mass Choir produced a string of hits with three albums certified as number one, three as top five, and two as top twelve alongside multiple Grammy, Stellar and Dove Award nominations.
If you have ever witnessed a Billy Graham Evangelistic Crusade, then you would be familiar with George Beverly Shea. He was the official soloist of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association for more than 60 years , rendering music before Dr. Graham brought the message. Shea passed away on yesterday after a brief illness. He was 104.
A Grammy winner in 1965 and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient in 2011, Shea recorded over 70 albums and is most noted for his composition, I’d Rather Have Jesus which has been recorded numerous times by the likes of Danniebelle Hall and Larnelle Harris.
