Kirk Franklin’s “Wanna Be Happy” was announced this evening as the Grammy winner in the category of Best Gospel Performance/Song. In a generous move, Franklin called all of the fellow nominees on stage to be recognized, saying he wants the voting body to know their names and faces. Anthony Brown, Travis Greene, Jonathan McReynolds and Brian Courtney Wilson all joined Franklin on stage to be recognized as the “new faces of gospel”. Not that he’s going anywhere, but Gospel is certainly in good hands!
Best Gospel Album went to Israel and New Breed for Covered: Alive in Asia. And last year’s winner Tasha Cobbs performed with this year’s Best Root Gospel Album winners, the legendary Fairfield Four
