Abyssinian Mass CD Debuts In Top 20 on Billboard Chart

The recording of Wynton Marsalis’ Abyssinian Mass featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the 70 voice TAMChorale LeChateau conducted by Damien Sneed takes a bow at #12 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.  The work celebrates the 200th anniversary of the famed Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem and the recording captures performances from the Abyssinian Mass Tour that took place in 2013.  Its a glorious fusion of church service and big band weaved together and is receiving rave reviews from the Chicago Tribune and the Wall Street Journal.

Wynton Marsalis’ Abyssinian Mass CD Featuring Damien Sneed Set To Release March 18

TAMBlue Engine Records will release Wynton Marsalis’ critically acclaimed Abyssinian Mass disc featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra along with Damien Sneed and Chorale LeChateau on March 18th.

Marsalis wrote the Mass in 2008 in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Harlem’s Abyssinian Baptist Church. In 2013, the JALC Orchestra joined Marsalis on a 16 city tour pairing the orchestra with the multi talented Damien Sneed and his 70 voice Chorale LeChateau for 19 concerts that stretched across the east and the south.   Marsalis shared these sentiments:”Many of the greatest jazz musicians today come out of the church. Damien Sneed and Chorale LeChateau Participate In Holiday Sing In NY

Damien directsFamed songwriter/composer and producer Damien Sneed brightens the holidays with music as his acclaimed Chorale LeChateau joins the Orchestra of St. Luke’s in its 4th Annual “Holiday Sing” concert on Friday, December 18th 

I am totally thrilled to have the opportunity to orchestrate and arrange music for the Orchestra of St. Luke’s,” says Sneed. “I grew up listening to their Grammy Award-winning projects they recorded with my mentors Jessye Norman, Wynton Marsalis, Kathleen Battle and Renee Fleming. This will be another surreal experience that is definitely beyond my wildest imagination.”

Sneed and Chorale LeChateau’s performance was captured in the film Everyone Has a Place as they joined famed trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for the celebrated Abyssinian Mass.

 

Lawrence Brownlee and Damien Sneed Bring Spirituals To Lincoln Center

Opera star LawrencBrownleee Brownlee and celebrated pianist/composer/conductor  Damien Sneed will celebrate African American spirituals and church music as they present music from their CD Spiritual Sketches (LeChateau Earl Records) on Wednesday January 29th.   The concert is part of Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series. Brownlee made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2013 and was a featured performer at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo Italy while Sneed toured the country conducting Wynton Marsalis’ Abysinian Mass with the Jazz at Lincoln Center orchestra and his Chorale LeChateau. Sneed also participated in the BMI tribute to Richard Smallwood during this year’s Stellar Award weekend. DamienSneed
