Another Caravans CD From Dorothy Norwood Music Group??

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

With the news this week of Dorothy Norwood launching her  very own Dorothy Norwood Music Group imprint , many gospel insiders wondered if this would be the vehicle Norwood will use for the release of the follow up to the 2006 Caravans Paved the Way CD.

Evangelist Norwood informed Gospelflava back in 2008 of plans to release another session from the group that introduced the world to the likes of the late Queen of Gospel Albertina Walker, the late Reverend James Cleveland,  Inez Andrews, Delois Washington and Evangelist Shirley Caesar.  Paved the Way was a resounding success debuting at #7 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums charts and remained on the charts for an impressive 22 weeks.  The CD received multiple award nominations, including a Soul Train, Dove , Grammy and three Stellar Award Nominations.

In the meantime, the gospel community patiently awaits word of an artist roster and release schedule from the newly formed Dorothy Norwood Music Group.

President Obama Says Walker’s Music Will Continue for Generations

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release  – October 10, 2010
Statement by President Obama on the Passing of Albertina Walker

Michelle and I are saddened by the passing of gospel great Albertina Walker. Ms. Walker was known for her Grammy Award winning voice and recognized by many as the ‘Queen of Gospel.’ Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, she started singing in her church youth choir at just four years old where she learned to spread the ‘Good News’ through song. She also performed before President Bill Clinton and was honored at the White House by President George W. Bush for her contributions to Gospel music. And she never forgot to give back, impacting her community through the Albertina Walker Scholarship Fund and many other charitable endeavors.

Ms. Walker’s voice and message has touched congregations across the nation. Though we have lost an American icon, her influence on gospel music will continue for generations. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and the countless lives she touched.
