Songwriter and Producer Rickey Grundy Passes

GOSPELflava jRGCoins others around the world saddened with news of the passing of Rickey R. Grundy. A master musician and composer, Grundy’s rise to prominence came with the recording of his song, Call Him Up (Can’t Stop Praising His Name) by Keith Pringle and the Pentecostal Community Choir.  His compositions dominated Gospel music over the next 2 decades in recordings by the Gospel Music Workshop of America Mass Choir, Ron Kenoly, Ann Nesby, Willmington Chester Mass Choir, Rodnie Bryant, Bishop Larry Trotter and others.  Rickey’s choir, the Rickey Grundy Chorale would go on to record for Sparrow Records and in later years, Rickey served as music director for Andrae Crouch.

 

Pastor Shirley Caesar Honored In Hollywood

Lady ShirleyMultiple Grammy winner Pastor Shirley Caesar was recently announced as a 2016 recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  She is the 4th Gospel artist to receive the prestigious honor.   Eone VP/GM Phil Thorton shared these sentiments: “Entertainment One Music congratulates Pastor Shirley Caesar on this monumental achievement as an honoree on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for 2016! Karen Clark Sheard Delivers New Disc July 17

Destined to Win, the long awaited and highly anticipated CD from Karen Clark Sheard will make its way to stores and digital outlets on Friday, July 17th.  Recorded live in Chicago, thKaren Clark Sheard-Destined To Win-album covere disc pairs Clark Sheard with the production work of Donald Lawrence, Daniel Weatherspoon and her son J Drew Sheard.

The 4 time Grammy winner shared these thoughts, “I’ve had some tests and trials….but I kept pushing through. God gave me a word that you have to speak because your words have power. I want the album to be a driving force to move people to where they need to be.”

Among the gems on the disc is a not to be missed Pass the mic session on the Andrae Crouch composition, Where Jesus Is featuring the Clark Sisters, Kierra Sheard and Donald Lawrence’s Company singer Kim McFarland.  Where Jesus Is appears exclusively on the Walmart version of Destined to Win.

The Funeral Services have been set to honor the life of Pastor Andrae Crouch:

Bishop Marvin Winans will eulogize Pastor Crouch and there will be performances by Yolanda Adams, Kurt Carr, Donnie McClurkin, Donald Lawrence, Karen Clark-Sheard, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Fred Hammond, BeBe Winans, CeCe Winans, Hezekiah Walker, Kirk Franklin, Dr. Bobby Jones, Kim Burrell, Pastor Shirley Ceasar, Byron Cage, Edwin Hawkins, Lynette Hawkins-Stephens, David and Nicole Binion, Erica Campbell, Smokie Norful, Richard Smallwood, Israel Houghton, Bryan Duncan, Ledisi, Tata Vega and others. An all-star band has been assembled by Mano Hanes and Bill Maxwell, including an 80-voice choir.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Music legend Andraé Crouch has died from complications following a heart attack on January 3rd. Andraé passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at approximately 4:30pm PST at Northridge Hospital Medical Center in the Los Angeles area. Andraé was 72 years old.

“Today my twin brother, womb-mate and best friend went home to be with the Lord,” said Pastor Sandra Crouch. “Please keep me, my family and our church family in your prayers. I tried to keep him here but God loved him best. Details of Andraé’s Celebration Service and Tribute will be forthcoming.”

Crouch’s accolades include 7 Grammy Awards, 6 GMA Dove Awards, an Academy Award nomination for “The Color Purple,” induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His songs have been recorded by everyone from Elvis Presley to Paul Simon, and he has worked as a producer and arranger with many of music’s top artists, including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Quincy Jones, Diana Ross, Elton John and many others. Andraé can also be heard on Michael Jackson’s hit singles “Man in the Mirror,” “Keep the Faith,” “Will You Be There” and “Earth Song.”

The family is requesting privacy at this time.

Andrae Crouch Again Hospitalized

Pastor Andraé Crouch has been hospitalized again after “serious health complications”  Saturday, according to his sister Sandra. Crouch’s twin sister and co-pastor of the New Christ memorial Church in San Fernando, California is asking for prayers from people across the world for the healing of her brother.

The 72-year-old singer has over the past few years, battled several health complications including heart failure, diabetes and several cancers.

His  “Let the Church Say Amen Celebration Tour” planned for the end of 2014 has been postponed due to recent illnesses. No details have been offered on this current bout, but we join with supporters world-wide in praying for this gospel treasure.

Jubilee Showcase Commemorative DVD Collection Available

Long before Gospel Music Channel and Bobby Jones Gospel, there was a show originating out of Chicago Illinois that brought GOSPEL MUSIC into the homes of tv viewers each Sunday morning.  You can now have a piece of Gospel Music history with the release of the Jubilee Showcase DVD Collectors Edition Jubilee Showcase

Steve Ordower, son of Jubilee Showcase host, the late Sid Ordower,  has compiled the “Jubilee Showcase” compilation DVD featuring classic performances from the 1960s and 1970s of The Staple Singers, The Soul Stirrers, Inez Andrews, Andrae Crouch and Jessy Dixon, among others.   PBS has been airing an hour-long special on the groundbreaking series celebrating its 50 years since late November 2013. Scores of artists and personalities appeared on the show over the years, ranging from James Cleveland, The Staple Singers and Andrae Crouch to Rev. Jesse Jackson. At its height, “Jubilee Showcase” boasted over 250,000 weekly viewers and presented some of the biggest names in gospel.

Riverphlo Announces the Re-signing of Marcus Cole

Marcus ColeGospel music lovers and die hard Commissioned fans will remember Marcus Cole as part of the group for the Time and Seasons CD. This affiliation was Cole’s first exposure to a national audience and would lead to additional high profile appearances on additional projects from Fred Hammond, Joann Rosario and Andrae Crouch. The multi-talented vocalist, songwriter, musician and producer teamed up with Riverphlo founder Luther Mano Haynes to release Write My Song, his debut solo project in 2006. In 2013, Cole once again connects with Riverphlo Entertainment joining the ranks of Andrae Crouch, Vonnie Lopez, fellow Commissioned member Keith Staten and Leon Timbo.
