Songwriter and Producer Rickey Grundy Passes

GOSPELflava jRGCoins others around the world saddened with news of the passing of Rickey R. Grundy. A master musician and composer, Grundy’s rise to prominence came with the recording of his song, Call Him Up (Can’t Stop Praising His Name) by Keith Pringle and the Pentecostal Community Choir.  His compositions dominated Gospel music over the next 2 decades in recordings by the Gospel Music Workshop of America Mass Choir, Ron Kenoly, Ann Nesby, Willmington Chester Mass Choir, Rodnie Bryant, Bishop Larry Trotter and others.  Rickey’s choir, the Rickey Grundy Chorale would go on to record for Sparrow Records and in later years, Rickey served as music director for Andrae Crouch.


Dr Bobby Jones’ Rejoice With Me Bows At #5

DBJ Rejoice With MeGospel’s favorite television host, Dr. Bobby Jones is celebrating today as Rejoice With Me (EchoPark/JDI), his first CD in 7 years makes it debut at #5 on the Billboard Gospel Albums Chart, the highest debut in his 35 + years career.  “I’m thrilled that the public has responded in such a big way,” says Jones. “I pray that the music continues to inspire people.”

Howard Hewett, Ann Nesby, Shawn McLemore, Tommye Young West, Renee Spearman and Paul Jackson Jr.join Dr. Bobby Jones and his group NSC for Rejoice with Me, his latest offering from Echopark/JDI RecorDBJ Rejoice With Meds dropping on March 25th. The title cut featuring Faith Evans has been in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs Chart for three months.

Dr. Jones has been a mainstay on Sunday mornings with his Bobby Jones Gospel Show, the longest running program in cable television history on BET and has released a dozen or so albums over the years.  His backing ensemble, NSC (formerly the Nashville Super Choir) joins him weekly on Sunday as well as on the new disc.

Arrow Records  announces the signing of  Grammy award winning singer, actress, and songwriter Ann Nesby to their label. No one can ever forget her amazing vocals from her days with “Sounds Of Blackness”. One of their smash hits that still resonates with music lovers  “Optimistic”, featured Nesby’s  her powerful  vocals. Ann Nesby is a veteran in the game. she has penned songs for Patti Labelle and Gladys Knight, and was featured in the 2003 inspirational film “The Fighting Temptations” alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyonce. She has released seven solo projects and we are all looking forward to her next recording effort.

The Sounds of Blackness Signs with Malaco Records

They’ve given us classics such as “Optimistic”, “I’m Going All The Way”, and “Hold On Change Is Coming”, and now the group that revolutionized Christian, R&B, and Inspirational Music Returns! The Sounds of Blackness has recently signed with Malaco Records. Expect to hear a new single entitled, “Fly Again” on radio from the Grammy Award Winning Group starting in August.  The new album will be simply titled, “The Sounds of Blackness” and is right on the heels of the group’s 40 year anniversary and the 20th anniversary of their game changing album, “Optimistic’.  The new single will feature Jamecia Bennett on lead vocals. Jamecia is the daughter of former Sounds of Blackness Lead vocalist Ann Nesby , and mother to Season 5 American Idol Finalist Paris Bennett
