Former Commisioned Member Chris Poole Passes

Commissioned Chris PooleGOSPELflava received news of the passing of Apostle Christopher L Poole Sr, (pictured second from left) on Monday, May 6th. Chris Poole and Marcus Cole joined founding members Karl Reid and Mitchell Jones for Commissioned’s 1999 Times and Seasons CD. Poole was an active part of Detroit’s Gospel scene, having worked alongside such gospel luminaries as Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, The Clark Sisters, The Winans, Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Shirley Murdock.

Funeral Services are scheduled for May 15th and 16th in Detroit.

Gospel Songwriter Elder George Jordan Passes

GOSPELflava and the Gospel Community is saddened with news of the passing of renowned  musician, singer and songwriter Elder George Jordan of Chicago, Illinois.

A native of Detroit Michigan, Jordan moved to Chicago in 1960 and accepted the position of Minister of Music for the Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Maceo Woods.  He would go on to lead the famed Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir for more than 40 years. (more…)

Lisa Page Brooks Debuts Better Than Life On The Word Network

Lisa Page Brooks will debut her new single “Better Than Life” on a very special presentation of  Rejoice in the Word  on Friday, November 16th, highlighting The Word Network’s brand new state of the art television production facility.

“Better Than Life” ranks at #31 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs Chart and is the lead single from Brook’s forthcoming Habbakuk Music CD scheduled to be released on February 5, 2013.

The song holds a special place in Lisa’s life as it was birthed in her as she meditated on Psalms 63. She shared with her husband the “musicman himself” Pastor Michael Brooks and taught it to the church praise team.  Her daughter worked out the vocal arrangement and her son produced the song under the careful observation of her husband.

Passing of Bishop James Craig

Gospelflava joins the gospel music community at large in mourning  the passing of Bishop James Craig.  James along with his brother Charles rose to prominence as The Craig Brothers recording for the Savoy and Sound of Gospel labels.

Ricky Dillard Recording – Chicago Meets Detroit October 30th

Ricky Dillard is reporting via his Twitter Page that a date has been confirmed for the next recording session for New G.  The Live Recording will be held on October 30, 2010 and hosted by Bishop Edgar Vann and the Second Ebenezer Baptist Church in the city of Detroit Michigan.  This  recording will be number 8 for Dillard and New G and their first for Light Records.
