The Gospel music community came to know Hassan McMillan, known professionally as Brother Hahz through his collaboration with Donald Lawrence on Let the Word Do the Work from Lawrence’s Law of Confession Volume 1 disc. In retrospect, Hahz has actually had the career that a lot of artist only dream of , touring and performing with Queen Latifah, Naughty by Nature, The Fugees and Jay-Z, across the country and overseas. A near death experience and the birth of his daughter would set the stage for a life change and lead him to commit his life to God in 2004.
A singer, writer, producer, composer and arranger, Hahz uses his life experiences to shape his music. But Hahz is quick to confess, “Please don’t call me a rapper.” “ I do so much more than rhyme.” His ministry touches the heart and reaches those who are seldom reached through traditional church settings. His latest offering, The Fixtape Vol. 2 hits Itunes on March 12th.
Arnetta Murrill Crooms is enjoying the success of the release of her first single Try it Again from her self titled debut CD scheduled to bow in the spring. Supporting the single’s release, the Tri-City Singers alum has had high profile performances during CIAA Week and will perform the National Anthem for the Charlotte Bobcats vs Miami Heat game at the Time Warner Arena in early April.
GOSPELflava was privileged to get insider info on the CD. The noteworthy and stand out compositions come from Cedric Thompson and Carnell Murrell. Crooms enlists family support as brother Roger Murill joins her for a feel good duet and she pulls on the expertise of her son Oliver, an up and coming producer for assistance with the five songs that she penned. If that isn’t enough, there’s a off the chain remake of I Am God.
In the meantime, Try It Again is available on Amazon and iTunes and feel free to take in a command performance of In the Presence of a King to help you get ready:
