This weekend’s BMI Trailblazer Awards were also the scene to honor Gospel’s Most-Performed Song of the Year: “The Gift,” written and performed by Donald Lawrence. The song, featured on Lawrence’s album Best For Last, topped the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart and achieved wide-spread success. BMI also recognized five additional opuses as Top-Performed Gospel Songs of the Year (2014): “1 On 1,” written by Lucius B. Hoskins and performed by Zacardi Cortez; “Clean This House,” co-written by Philip Cornish and Isaac Carree, who is the performer; “God Will Make a Way,” written by Ay’Ron Lewis and performed by Shirley Caesar; “Here in Our Praise,” co-written by Michael Bethany and Fred Hammond, who is the performer; and “It’s Working,” co-written by Aaron Lindsey and William Murphy, who is the performer.

Entertainment One has compiled the top hits from the Gospel heavyweights such as Kirk Franklin, Andraé Crouch, Marvin Winans, Tamela Mann, Hezekiah Walker, Marvin Sapp, Donald Lawrence, Fred Hammond, and more for Billboard #1 Gospel Hits, a 2 disc set hitting stores on January 13th.
The set of 20 songs includes Kirk Franklin’s “I Smile,” Hezekiah Walker’s “Every Praise,” Tamela Mann’s “I Can Only Imagine,” andVaShawn Mitchell’s “Nobody Greater” and is available in stores as well as on digital outlets.
Grammy award winning producer Donald Lawrence, Arnetta Murrill Crooms, Joshua Rogers and Dottie Peoples headline the first annual Gospel’s Best 3 Day Concert and Indie Artist Showcase in Wilmington, North Carolina August 8th through August 10th.
This event extends an invitation to Gospel groups, artists and musicians to compete for an opportunity to win cash prizes and awards in addition to a trip to SONY MUSIC NYC to meet with A&R Executives. In addition, the selected artist will perform live at Six Flags America locations and MBN6 Gospel Believers ROC celebrity concerts and other Sony Indie Artist Showcases.
The event was created and spearheaded by Kal Nwaneri, Founder & CEO, MBN6, in collaboration with Bishop James Utley, President, Resource Outreach Center (ROC) and Kevin Liles, CEO of Go N’SYDE in an effort to provide an alternative to the violence, bullying and other ills plaguing inner city youth.
