Allstate Gospel Superfest Headed to TV One

Allstate GospelThe ever popular Allstate Gospel Superfest finds a new broadcast home at TV One  during the 2016 holiday season.  This show in its 18th year was founded and is produced by Bobby Cartwright, Jr. and  has had a syndicated run for 16 consecutive years.  This year’s celebration took place at  Coppin State University in Baltimore and featured performances from  J. Moss, Karen Clark Sheard, Jonathan Butler, Lonnie Hunter & Structure, Beverly Crawford, Jonathan McReynolds, James Hall & Worship & Praise, Tim Bowman, Jr., Dorinda Clark Cole, Alexis Spight, and Patrick Lundy’s Ministers of Music.

The reigning Queen of Gospel, Pastor Shirley Caesar was on hand to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award and the two hour telecast is hosted by actress Vivica A. Fox.  Look for the Allstate Gospel Superfest debut in November with encore performances throughout the month of December.

 

Bill Moss, Jr. Set For Live Recording

Bill Moss jrNoted songwriter and musician Bill Moss, Jr. is set to record The Songbook of Praise and Worship on Sunday, December 20th at Detroit’s Third New Hope Baptist Church.  The son of Gospel legends Bill and Essie Moss and nephew of Mattie Moss Clark, Bill, Jr burst on the scene as one part of the Moss Brothers, with his younger brother, James (better known as J) rounding out the group.  Bill would leave the group to complete his college studies and went on to release a solo project Manifested Favor in 2008.  The disc made its debut at #27 on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart.

In addition to handling music and worship pastor duties at Third New Hope, Moss provides instruction to music students via the Moss Academy of Music.

Cinque Cullar Tapped For 60th Anniversary Montgomery Bus Boycott Celebration

Cinque and Solid GospelInternational Worship Leader Cinque Cullar joins local and national celebrities including Hillary Clinton, Reverend Freddy Haynes, Reverend Bernice King and other dignitaries gathering in Montgomery, Alabama for the week long festivities commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Mrs. Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her seat on December 1, 1955 positioned her as the face of the movement which gained worldwide attention bringing Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  to prominence.

Cullar, a graduate of Alabama State University will sing at the ecumenical prayer service held at the historic Dexter Avenue Baptist Church where Dr. King served in his first assignment as pastor.  “I am humbled to lend my gifts in the celebration commemorating the birth of the movement”, states Cullar. “I love Montgomery for its historicity and as an educator, I feel the necessity to make sure that we empower young people through the knowledge and appreciation of our history. The sacrifice and commitment of people like Mrs. Rosa Parks, Dr. King and others should never be forgotten. We are able to enjoy many opportunities not afforded to our parents and grandparents because of their hard work and dedication.”

In addition to the prayer service, a gospel concert will be held on Sunday December 6th at the Dunn Carter Acadome on the campus of Alabama State University.

Cullar continues touring supporting the release of his sophomore release Life and Worship Live In Sweden.

Ashford Sanders Drops New Music February 23rd

GOSPELflava was the first to break the news of music coming from Sunday Best Season 5 Finalist and Fan Favorite Ashford Sanders. Now comes word of the February release of a brand new single,Ashford Sanders official Because You’ve Been Good.

Sanders says the song is a personal testimony for him. “God has been good to me, and I know I have been blessed. Not that everyday in my life has been good, I have had some sleepless nights and days filled with pain, but I am a living witness that God will bring you through every situation. …… I can sing anything, but my heart is in songs with substance, and Because You’ve Been Good sums up how great God has been in my life. I can’t help but thank and praise Him for his goodness TO ME.”

Because You’ve Been Good is written and produced by Pharis Evans, Jr. and hits digital retail outlets on February 23rd.  Sanders will perform the song as he makes concert dates throughout the US leading up to the GMWA Board Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Return of Saints With A Vision

Saints AliveThe year was 1999 when Pharis Evans, Jr. and Saints With a Vision (SWV) burst on the scene with their debut project Calling All Saints.  The disc produced a wave of great choir music including Oh, How He Loves Me, Great Things and the unforgettable If Nothing Else, Thank You, which led to top placement on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart, a Stellar Award nomination and a Chicago Music Award.

Fast forward to 2014 and prepare yourself  as the Saints get ready for another go round with the release of the Deeds of the Lord, the new single from their soon to be released Saints Alive CD.  The group will celebrate their 16th Anniversary with a concert kick off to their multi city promotional tour.

Pharis Evans Jr Takes Us To The Fountain Of Life

Grammy, Stellar and Dove award nominated singer/songwPEJ1riter/producer Pharis Evans, Jr. has greatly impacted the landscape of Gospel music writing and producing chart topping hits for The Williams Brothers, Stevie Wonder, DJ Rogers, Kelly Price, Bobby Jones and NSC, Stephanie Mills,  Yolanda Adams, Bishop Paul Morton, the Canton Spirituals, Bishop Neal Roberson and the list goes on.  Evans’ lineage consists of great preachers and minstrels as he is the son of a preacher and the nephew of the legendary iconic gospel preacher and singer, Reverend Clay Evans.

Evans fulfills a God ordained assignment with the formation of Fountain of Life Records.  The label aims to provide music that both revitalizes and refreshes the spirit much like water quenches the natural thirst.   Scheduled releases include Due Season,  a 2 disc set from Pharis Evans, Jr and Loved Ones, the long awaited follow up disc from Saints with a Vision as well as music from newcomers Romandis Moore, Davie Moore, DeWayne Strong and noted pastor Samuel R. Blakes.

Tommy Couch, Jr. Succeeds Father As President of Malaco Music Group

Tommy Couch MARSMalaco Music Group announced today the election of Thomas J. Couch, Jr. (pictured first on the left) as President and CEO. Couch Jr. succeeds his father, Tommy Couch, Sr. who co founded Malaco Records in the late 60s. Malaco made huge strides into gospel by signing the Jackson Southernaires in 1975 followed by the acquisition of Savoy Records in the 80s and Atlanta International Records in 2005. Today, the Malaco roster includes Luther Barnes, Maurette Brown Clark, Mississippi Mass Choir, Georgia Mass Choir and Jekalyn Carr.

Couch, Sr. had this to say on his son’s election: “Tommy was instrumental and took the lead in several of our acquisitions throughout the years with the most important being the purchase of 50% interest in Select-O-Hits, the premier independent record distributor located in Memphis, TN. In this ever- changing and challenging Music Business, Tommy has the leadership, experience and vision to carry Malaco forward.”

Raise the Praise With Full Gospel April 9th

The Full GoFull Gospelspel Baptist Church Fellowship International Worship Ministry is paying it forward on the admonition of Psalm 66:2 to “make His praise glorious.    Light Records is getting in gear for the release of One Sound.  The live CD, recorded during the 2012 FGBCF Conference at the Georgia Dome features the “saints in praise” with appearances by Bishop Paul Morton,  Bishop William Murphy, Jr. , Pastor William Murphy, III, Benita Washington, Jonathan McReynolds, JJ Hairston and others.  The project drops April 9th.

Happy Birthday Mahalia Jackson

She was by far one of the most influential gospel singers of all time.  Recording over 35 albums, she was the recipient of a number of gold records including one for her 1948 recording of Move On Up A Little Higher, which went on to sell over 8 million copies.  She was a humanitarian, a civil rights champion working closely with Dr. Martin Luther King and Gospel’s first Superstar.  The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences created the Gospel Music or Other Religious Recording category for Jackson making her the first Gospel Music Artist to win the prestigious Grammy Award.   Gospelflava.com remembers the life and legacy of Mahalia Jackson.
