Gospel Industry Legend Gentry McCreary Passes

Wednesday, December 9th, 2015

GentryGOSPELflava joins others across the nation mourning the passing of Gentry McCreary, Sr, a giant in the Gospel Music industry.  In his over 40 year career, McCreary worked  promoting records to radio for a number of labels including Birthright, Word, Light and Benson.  His affiliation with Light Records led to the first solo album from Rev. James Moore, Brothers and Sisters, I Will Be Praying For You in 1981.  McCreary’s legacy was cemented with his work at the Onyx label, where he would introduce the world to the Richard Smallwood Singers, Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Bishop Paul S Morton in addition to defining albums from Keith Pringle, Danniebelle Hall and Thomas Whitfield.  Moving to the Plumbline label, McCreary orchestrated albums from Daryl Coley and Lecresia Campbell.

JJ Hairston And Youthful Praise Drop New CD October 28th

Tuesday, September 16th, 2014

JJ Hairston sets the record straight about his continued recordings with Youthful Praise.   “People always ask me if I’m going to go out on my own and do my own thing. I think Youthful Praise is a part of what I do so I’d never make a J.J. Hairston record. It will always be J.J. Hairston & Youthful Praise.” Looking back, Hairston admits to never having intentions to lead the aggregation. “I joined just to sing tenor.  Youthful Praise taught me to be a leader. I didn’t form the group. It was already there when I got there but they made me a leader and that’s why I appreciate the group as a whole. I See Victory

Hairston and YP are excited about the October 28th release of their 7th live CD, I See Victory on Light Records. The 17 track disc features the choir and assistance from Donnie McClurkin, Karen Clark Sheard, Vashawn Mitchell, Jason Nelson and Deon Kipping.  Radio has responded to “It Pushed Me” as it  rose to #13 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart and “Bless Me” (featuring a rousing lead by Donnie McClurkin) is #27 on the Gospel Airplay chart.

New Music From Kristle Murden

Tuesday, December 17th, 2013

KristleIn the 80s, Andrae Crouch gave us I’ll Be Thinking of You and introduced the world to the song stylings of Kristle Murden. AND THE WORLD HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME SINCE. Kristle would go on to record I Can’t Let Go,  her solo debut for Light Records and continue a long association with the Andrae Crouch Singers (Just a Matter of Time, Jesus, Come Lay Your Head on Me, Come Closer to Me, He’s the Light) .  While we were consumed with the unexpected release of another female phenom, Howard Smith (another Andrae Crouch alum) informed us that Kristle has new music in the marketplace.  Turn it Over is the new single and it is available via digital outlets.  Especially for the GOSPELflava family, here’s a snippet:
