Kathy Taylor, Luther Barnes and Byron Cage Headline Gospel Mix Tour

Gospel Mix 2016The Gospel Music Workshop of America will play host to the first stop of the Gospel Mix 2016 Tour, taking place on Sunday, July 24th in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama.

This year’s tour brings together legends Luther Barnes and The Canton Spirituals with Kathy Taylor, Earnest Pugh, Byron Cage and choir master Ricky Dillard. Joining the praise party are Gospel favorites Zacardi Cortez, James Fortune, the trio Half Mile Home, quartet king Damon Little and others.

The music of the Gospel Mix Tour makes up this year’s installment of the Top Ten best-selling album “Kerry Douglas Presents Gospel Mix 2016” that features chart-topping hits such as Zacardi Cortez’ “#YDIA,” Damon Little’s “I Won’t Be Defeated,” Byron Cage’s “Like No Other” and Half Mile Home’s “More Than Enuff.

Beloved singer and songwritLuther+Barneser Luther Barnes is back signing an exclusive recording agreement with SRT Entertainment making way for more music from the the Sunset Jubilaires, The Barnes Family and his solo project. Known for gospel classics including So Satisfied and I’m Still Holding On, Luther Barnes has released some twenty one projects with seven of them charting in the top 20 of the Billboard Top Gospel Albums Charts.

Donald Lawrence, Arnetta Murrill Crooms and Joshua Rogers Headline Gospel Showcase

Donald-Lawrence-2011-2Grammy award winning producer Donald Lawrence, Arnetta Murrill Crooms, Joshua Rogers and Dottie Peoples headline the first annual Gospel’s Best 3 Day Concert and Indie Artist Showcase in Wilmington, North Carolina August 8th through August 10th.

This event extends an invitation to Gospel groups, artists and musicians to compete for an opportunity to win cash prizes and awards in addition to a trip to SONY MUSIC NYC to meet with A&R Executives. In addition, the selected artist will perform live at Six Flags America locations and MBN6 Gospel Believers ROC celebrity concerts and other Sony Indie Artist Showcases.

The event was created and spearheaded by Kal Nwaneri, Founder & CEO, MBN6, in collaboration with Bishop James Utley, President, Resource Outreach Center (ROC) and Kevin Liles, CEO of Go N’SYDE in an effort to provide an alternative to the violence, bullying and other ills plaguing inner city youth.

 

Passing of Bishop F C Barnes

Gospel music lovers across the country were saddened with the passing of AIR Gospel/Malaco Recording Artist Bishop F C Barnes on July 11. Bishop Barnes was 82.

Bishop Barnes started singing with quartets at the age of 14.  He spent a number of years traveling the circuit before answering the call to ministry organizing the Red Budd Holy Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina where he would serve as pastor and chief musician.    He would later go on to pair up with Reverend Janice Brown.  The duo made eight albums, one of which yielded  the smash hit Rough Side of the Mountain in 1983. The album would sell over 500,000 units and ride the charts for over a a record 97 weeks.

Bishop Barnes recorded several albums with his son Luther and the Barnes Family, with his group called the Company (featuring his nieces Deborah Barnes, Wanda Barnes, and Lisa Barnes)  his Red Budd Gospel Choir as well as several recordings from the quartet he founded, the Sunset Jubilaires.
