Deborah Byrd In Producer’s Chair for Stellar Award Telecast

Its a changing ostellar-awards-logof the guard as Stellar Awards producer Barbara Wilson passes the baton to Deborah Byrd.  Wilson has helmed production efforts for the show since the very first show taped at Chicago’s Arie Crown Theater in 1985.  We talked with Barbara Wilson some years back, see our interview here. While taking a step back, Wilson is not going off the scene entirely, she will maintain an active presence with the show as executive consultant.

Sherri Shepherd and Rickey Smiley Return As Hosts of Stellar Awards

Smiley ShepherdThe Stellar Awards, dubbed the biggest night in Gospel music will make a triumphant return to Las Vegas Nevada in the Orleans Arena on February 20th. Also making a return for hosting duties are comedian Rickey Smiley and actress/daytime talk show host Sherri Shepherd.  The Stellar Awards will make its broadcast premiere on TV One during the week of March 6, before entering syndication reaching 150 stations in 125 markets between March and April.

“I am pleased that God has blessed us with celebrating 31 years as the most respected awards brand in gospel music and in the faith-based community,” says Don Jackson, founder and executive producer of the Stellar Awards. “We will honor those who have contributed to the growth and success of gospel music as a genre, as well as demonstrate why this art form remains critical to the legacy of American music.”
In this year’s special honors categories, commendations will be given by Stellar Awards founder and Central City Productions CEO Don Jackson to Yolanda Adams and  comedian Jonathan Slocumb, the late O’landa Draper will receive the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award and the Ambassador Bobby Jones Legends Award will be presented to the Mighty Clouds of Joy front man, the inimitable Joe Ligon.

Performers for this year include Kirk Franklin, Anthony Brown & Group therAPy, Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Chicago, Tasha Cobbs, Travis Greene and Best New Artist nominee Casey J.

Charles Jenkins War Cry Tops Billboard Year End Chart

Pastor Charles Jenkins and Fellowship Chicago celebrate the blessings of the New Year with news that their radio single, War is #1 on Billboard Magazine’s year-end Gospel Airplay chart.  The song also lands in the top spot on the year-end Gospel Streaming Songs chart (over 500,000 streams on Spotify alone) and was the 5th most downloaded gospel song of the yJenkinsear with over 50,000 downloads.

“It’s been an amazing year for us and we’re all so thankful,” says Jenkins. “We all have so much to be thankful for and to celebrate God’s goodness.” The news comes as Any Given Sunday receives 8 Stellar Award nominations including Song of the Year: War, CD of the Year, Choir of the Year, Producer of the Year and Traditional Male Vocalist of the Year.

Stellars Announce 2016 Date and City

Central City Productions has announced that it will hold the 31st Annual Stellar in Las Vegas once again. The awards were held in “Sin City” for the first time earlier this year. February 20 marks the date. Venue and event information still to be announced.

Erica Campbell Returns To The Top Of The Charts

Erica Campbell StellarsErica Campbell’s Help 2.0 is greeted with a warm reception as it makes its debut in the #1 spot on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. HELP 2.0 is making a noise across the spectrum, landing in the top 10 on the Top Christian/Gospel Albums chart in addition to placement on  the Top 200, Top Current Albums, Top Independent Albums and Top Current Digital.

“There is just so much more to sing and say,” said this year’s multiple Stellar Award winner. “I’m just getting started! As long as God keeps opening the door for me I’ll keep walking through it! So humbled and so grateful.”

Erica Campbell Celebrates Stellar Wins

Erica Campbell was the big winner at the 30th annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards taking home 6 statues for Artist of the Year, CD of the Year, Contemporary 30th Annual Stellar Gospel Music AwardsCD of the Year, the Albertina Walker Female Artist of the Year and Contemporary Female Artist of the Year, all for her debut solo project Help.

Campbell’s team was also celebrated on the winning night with awards going to Warryn Campbell for Producer of the Year and Derek Blanks for Recorded Music Packaging of the Year.

The excitement continues as Help 2.0 (the remix album) hits stores and digital outlets on Tuesday, March 31st.

Destiny’s Child Reunion Highlights Gospel’s Biggest Night

stellar-awards-logoMichelleWilliamsSingsSayYes,JoinedByKellyRowland,Beyonce-2015StellarAwardsOf all the weekend buzz of Gospel’s biggest night, the 30th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards was capped by a reunion performance of Destiny’s Child.  Michelle Williams flanked by Beyonce and Kelly Rowland opened the awards show with a rousing rendition of Say Yes from Williams’ Journey to Freedom CD.

The big winner of the night was Erica Campbell, taking home six statues out of the ten nominations that she received for her solo debut CD Help.

The Stellar Awards broadcast will be shown on Easter Sunday April 5th on TV One.
