Tye Tribbett Signs with EMI Gospel

greaterthan_flyer1Capping off the festivities that made up Stellar Award Weekend 2013, EMI Gospel announced the signing of Tye Tribbett.  Tribbett had an amazingly roof raising performance at the opening of this year’s Stellars with his latest hit, Same God.

Tribbett recorded his Greater Than CD back in August of 2012.

Congratulations to EMI GOSPEL and to Tye.

Tramaine, Edwin Hawkins and Kurt Carr Receive BMI Top Honors

Lady Tramaine Hawkins confirmed via Twitter and Facebook that she is among the honorees for the 2013 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards Luncheon held during Stellar Awards Weekend in Nashville, Tennessee.  Sharing BMI top honors with Tramaine are  Edwin Hawkins, widely regarded as one of the fathers of contemporary gospel music and noted singer/songwriter and master producer Kurt Carr.

Mississippi Mass Choir, Mosie Burks and Chad Johnson

In 1988, Frank Williams, member of the Jackson Southernaires and executive for Malaco Records set out to form a choir using Mississippi singers and musicians.  The auditions resulted in over 100 singers coming from across the state and after hours of intensive rehearsals, The Mississippi Mass Choir recorded their first album and video on October 29, 1988.  The project hit #1 on the Billboard charts within 5 weeks of its release  in 1989 and rode the charts for 45 weeks, garnering the choir top honors at GMWA and the Stellar Awards as well as Soul Train and Dove Award nominations.  (more…)

Mary Mary Returns to WE TV for Season 2 in December

WE tv announced the return of the adventures of three time Grammy Award winning sisters Tina and Erica Campbell, known across the world as  Mary Mary.  Season two of WE tv’s hit series MARY MARY, will premiere on Tuesday, December 6th at a special time . Following the premiere, new episodes of MARY MARY will air in its regular time slot Thursdays at 9PM ET/PT, beginning on  December 13th .

Mary Mary is currently on the Go Get It Tour and will serve as co hosts of the 28th Annual Stellar Awards alongside Kirk Franklin.  Mary Mary leads the list of nominees with nine total nominations including “Song of the Year,” “Contemporary Group/Duo of the Year,” and “Contemporary CD of the Year,” in addition to “Producer of the Year,” “Music Video of the Year” and “Recorded Music Packaging of the Year” categories.

The 27th Annual Stellar Awards are right around the corner and we have some highlights for you as we take a journey on the “Road To The Stellars“.

Vashawn Mitchell is leading this year’s nominations list with 10 nominations!! Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Deitrick Haddon, Earnest Pugh, and Rance Allen are top nominees  amongst this year. Honorees this year include: Pastor John P. Kee (James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award) , Vy Higginsen (Thomas A. Dorsey Most Notable Achievement Award), and Dorothy Norwood (The Ambassador Dr. Bobby Jones Legend Award). Some standouts on the nominee list include: Independent Artist Wess Morgan, Christian Hip Hop artist Lecrae, Season 2 Sunday Best Winner Y’Anna Crawley, and the return of  the beloved Trinitee 5:7.
