Motown Gospel was well represented during the nominees announcement for the for the 47th Annual Dove Awards. Tasha Cobbs received four nominations for her One Place Live CD, including Gospel Artist of the Year and Urban Worship Album of the Year. She also picked up nominations for Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year “Put A Praise On It,” and Urban Worship Recorded Song of the Year “Fill Me Up.”
John P. Kee, received two nominations for Traditional Gospel Album of the Year and Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year for “Level Next.”
The remaining two nominations for the label went to Janice Gaines and Lifestyle Music’s Tim Bowman Jr. who were both nominated in the Contemporary Gospel/Urban Recorded Song of the Year for “Wait On You,” and “I’m Good”

RCA Inspiration celebrates as Demonstrate, the new CD from Grammy nominated Bishop William Murphy takes a bow this week at #1 on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart. The album was recorded before a live audience at The Church at Chapel Hill in Douglasville, Georgia and marks the singer/songwriter’s fifth solo project.
Murphy could not contain his excitement with the news, “I’m extremely grateful to God, and to every person, who’s helped to make my new CD/DVD, DEMONSTRATE, #1! Your love and your support is Divine, and I pray that every song helps you to encounter God’s Presence, over and over, and over again.”

Motown Gospel gives a different approach to its artist’s songs with the release of an acoustic compilation aptly titled 1 Mic 1 Take. The CD brings together the label’s best loved performers including Grammy Award winners Smokie Norful and Tasha Cobbs as well as Myron Butler & Levi, Brian Courtney Wilson and Royce Lovett.
This was a first time venture for the label, with the sessions all taking place at the iconic Capitol Studios. “Putting world class artists in a legendary room performing their signature songs with scaled back production doesn’t present itself often,” says, Larry Blackwell, Vice President and General Manager of Motown Gospel. “I believe the artists captured the fundamental essence of our genre with their soulful performances.”

ht did not disappoint as the 31st Annual Stellar Awards returned to the city of Las Vegas to celebrate Gospel music and the people who make it. Anthony Brown and group therAPy made Stellar Award history as the Tyscot recording artists took home statues in the 10 categories they were nominated in. Other multiple winners included Charles Jenkins and Fellowship Chicago, the Rance Allen Group, Tasha Cobbs and Tina Campbell. One of the most memorable moments was the James Cleveland Award tribute to the late Olanda Draper featuring a reunion of his beloved choir the Associates coupled with fellow Brat Pack members Ricky Dillard, Donald Lawrence and Hezekiah Walker. The 2 hour telecast will make its debut on Sunday, March 6 on TV One and then begin its syndicated run in 125 markets between March 12 and April 10th. . A full list of the winners is found below.

Motown Gospel recording artist Tasha Cobbs perfectly fits the moniker of “breakout artist”. Her national debut, Grace took the world by storm with her cover of Break Every Chain. Grace flowed freely and Cobbs went on to win her first Grammy coupled along with three Stellar Awards and three Dove Awards. For over thirty years this event has honored the best and brightest in Gospel music for their contribution to the art of Gospel Music. Motown Gospel celebrates Grammy nominations for Tasha Cobbs and Brian Courtney Wilson.
Tasha Cobbs took home a Grammy statue for her stirring performance of Break Every Chain from her debut project in 2014. One Place Live was released in August, and made its debut at #1 on the Billboard chart. Cobbs took home a Dove Award as the 2015 Gospel Artist of the Year and is currently on tour with Kierra Sheard and William Murphy.
Brian Courtney Wilson delivered Worth Fighting For as his first project for the Motown Gospel label at the top of 2015, produced by Aaron Lindsey. Worth Fighting For made its debut at the top of the radio charts and the album earned a Dove Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album.

Erica Campbell and Tasha Cobbs left the Soul Train Awards 2015 crowd standing after rousing renditions of Campbells’ “Little More Jesus” and Cobbs’ “Put A Praise On It”. Campbell was nominated for this year’s Gospel/Inspirational Song of the Year for “More Love”. Check out the video of their performance on BET’s broadcast.
