Cissy Houston to be Honored at Gospel Image Awards

Award winning gospel and soul singer Cissy Houston, mother of the late Whitney Houston and grandmother of the late Bobbi Kristina Brown, will be honored at the Gospel Image Awards in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The multiple Grammy winning singer will be awarded the lifetime achievement honor at Saturday’s event, held at Halton Theater. “Miss Cissy has worked for the gospel industry for a very, very long time and she’s very deserving of this award,” said Diana Davis, Gospel Image Awards executive producer.

Houston was in the Drinkard Singers and well-known vocal group the Sweet Inspirations, who performed alongside artists like Aretha Franklin, Elvis, and countless others. She won two Grammys in 1998 and 1996 for traditional soul gospel albums.

Gospel A-Listers BeBe Winans, Marvin Sapp, Fred Hammond and Mary Mary round out the Best Gospel/Inspirational Category

 for the 2012 Soul Train Music Awards.  Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks are also nominated in the category for their performance of Celebrate from the movie Sparkle.  Gospel Jazz virtuoso Ben Tankard is among the nominees in the Best Contemporary Jazz Artist/Group Category.

The 2012 Soul Train Music Awards hosted by comedian and star of the TV Land Sitcom The Soul Man Cedric the Entertainer will tape on November 8th at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The two hour show will simulcast on the BET and Centric networks on Sunday, November 25th.  Check your local listings for the time.

Arrow Records Signs Pastor Kim Burrell

Atlanta based Record Label Arrow Records continues to revamp its lineup and management. The label announced today the signing of Grammy Award Nominated artist Pastor Kim Burrell. The three time Stellar Award winning artist known for her amazing vocal styling is the second artist to sign to the label after Grammy Award Winning Ann Nesby signed on earlier this year.  Newly appointed General Manager Cappriccieo M. Scates states,  “We have all been huge fans of her work for many years, and having an opportunity to assist in bringing her music to the world is an amazing honor!  Like most, I refer to her as the greatest voice alive, and I am so excited about working with her!”

Pastor Kim Burrell is set to release new music in May of 2013.
